Virtual Support and Engagement

The Division of Student Life is here to support you through this spring semester of remote learning. We have pivoted some of our services, resources, and programs to meet your needs in a remote learning environment. Our goals are to provide support, encourage connections, and allow you the opportunity to engage with the campus community from home.

Academic Support

Even with Miami’s transition to remote learning, the Rinella Learning Center is here to excel in our mission to support students academically. We are thrilled to provide three remote options for students seeking content-specific assistance:

  • Tutor.com Staff Tutoring: Through our partner, Tutor.com, we offer remote tutoring on a variety of course topics. While these tutors are not Miami students, they are nonetheless professionally trained, and can be accessed 24/7!
  • Peer Tutoring: Remote tutoring led by our highly-trained peer tutors. This allows students to seek help from fellow students who have excelled in those subjects.
  • Supplemental Instruction: Online help sessions for specific courses, led by our Supplemental Instruction leaders in consultation with faculty members.

ALL of these options are completely FREE for Miami students. Students are also encouraged to reach out for academic coaching as they move to remote work. RLC is prepared to help students succeed during this transition!

Accessibility

The Miller Center for Student Disability Services (SDS) is working with currently affiliated students and accepting new students needing accommodations. All services have moved to a remote format.

Check out their Remote Learning Accessibility Toolkit for students, faculty, and staff.

Students experiencing an access barrier should continue to use the Access Barrier Report form.

Spring 2020 Emergency Funding Request

We are all experiencing unprecedented events and we know these events may have placed some students in financially challenging situations.

If you are a full-time registered Oxford student and are experiencing food insecurity, housing insecurity, technological challenges, or any other immediate financial crisis, please contact our office at 513-529-1877 or by filling out a Spring 2020 Emergency Funding Request form and let us see how we can help!

The Health Services Center is open with limited hours and services.

The Student Health clinic is open with essential staff and reduced hours. Only patients are permitted to enter the clinic; no friends or support persons are allowed unless the patient is a minor. If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms (fever, coughing, shortness of breath), please call prior to coming to Student Health Services.

H.O.P.E. Line

The H.O.P.E. (Help Over the Phone Everywhere) line is available 24/7 for students to call for immediate support, crisis intervention, and stabilization from a licensed mental health counselor. This service is free for Miami students.

The H.O.P.E. Line phone number is 855-249-5649.

EdLogics

EdLogics was introduced to Miami students last year as a fun, engaging way to learn about health using gamification principles.

EdLogics has added several COVID-19 related articles in addition to hundreds of other topics you can peruse when you have some time.

The program is offered free to all Miami students through MiamiOH.edlogics.com. Drawings for prizes (and sometimes cash!) are held every few weeks.

Virtual Campus Care

Farmer School of Business with Campus Care Logo overlayed

For Miami students residing in any location, we are pleased to offer daily Campus Care sessions via WebEx. Campus Care is an option for students who want to consult with a trained mental health professional in a less formal and more convenient setting than a counseling appointment. Virtual Campus Care sessions are held Monday through Friday.
