The Wilks Institute is available to provide support for instructors who are teaching, or planning to teach a course with a service learning designation in the following ways:

Course Content Development

The Wilks staff is experienced in the development of service learning orientation, reflections, and assessment strategies that enhance the impact of community engaged learning on the student experience. Staff are available to consult on syllabus development, course design, and perceived barriers to course development.

Community Partnerships

The Wilks Institute meets regularly with community agencies and non-profits to help develop long-term sustainable partnerships in Butler County. Staff is available to support with initiating and developing community partnerships for your service learning course.

Professional Development

The Wilks Institute is able to provide a connection to professional development opportunities that will enhance your service learning practice including:

Financial Support 

Wilks has a small amount of funding available to support the development of long-term community engagement projects for service learning courses through our Service Learning Faculty Mini Grant program. Please fill out this short form to learn more about this program and available funding.
