RecycleMania GameDay: Men's basketball vs. Ohio University March 6

GameDay competition encourages waste reduction and recycling

recyclemania-logoRecycleMania’s founding members — Miami and Ohio universities — are competing in a special GameDay basketball competition to see which school’s fans can recycle the most at a single basketball game.

Miami sustainability staff and volunteers from student groups will weigh the trash and recycling collected during the men’s game between Miami and OU at 7 p.m. Friday, March 6, at Millett Hall.

The waste diversion rate (total weight of recyclables/total weight of trash) and the recycling rate per capita will be compared with OU’s rates from their GameDay basketball game last month vs. Miami, to see which school recycled the most.

Results will be posted at the end of the official RecycleMania tournament March 28.

Special Events

  • Thanks to a collaboration between Miami Activities and Programming (MAP), intercollegiate athletics and the office of sustainability, the first 500 students at the March 6 game will receive a Hydro Flask reusable water bottle.
  • Miami Sustainability and student groups including Zero Waste, Eco Reps, MAP and others will have information booths in the concourse before the game.
  • President Greg Crawford and Dr. Renate Crawford will lead a "Recycle This, Not That" game during halftime with members of the Associated Student Government.
