He has held the interim position since June 1, 2019.

Shock (Miami ’92) provides leadership to the offices of admission, the bursar, student financial assistance as well as One Stop and the Student Success Center. In addition to ensuring compliance with the awarding of federal, state and university aid programs, he works closely with university leadership to ensure enrollment and student persistence goals for the university are met.

Shock started in Miami’s financial aid office in 1992. He served as a counselor, assistant director for student employment, and associate and senior associate director of systems prior to becoming director of financial assistance in 2011.

“After 2011, Miami formed the EMSS division and, since that time, I worked closely with the vice president and office of admission on recruitment, retention and student success,” he said.

With the country battling the impact of COVID-19, Shock said he’s proud of the staff in EMSS “as they transitioned quickly to remote work, provided for students’ emergency needs, worked to allow course flexibility and created virtual admission and career events.”
