Student Health Insurance

The form to enroll or waive student health insurance will be available starting June 1, 2017.

Miami University requires all full-time Oxford students be covered by health insurance. To that end, all Oxford students registered full-time when the fall semester bill is generated are charged for health insurance unless the student has completed and been granted a waiver of the student health insurance.

This process must be completed annually for all full-time Oxford students.

International Students

Miami University requires all international students registered at Miami University to enroll in the school-sponsored insurance plan each academic year. All eligible international students will be automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan.

Health Insurance Waiver

If you are currently covered by health insurance (from a parent, spouse, or other source) you must complete an electronic insurance waiver request. Once the waiver request is submitted and the information is verified, a confirmation e-mail is sent to your Miami e-mail account, and a credit is posted to your bursar bill. The deadline to request the waiver is August 31, 2017. Students whose enrollment status changes to full-time Oxford (e.g. newly registered students, full-time to part-time, regional relocation, etc.) will have the opportunity to request a waiver at the time of the change even if it is after the August 31 deadline.

It is necessary to complete an electronic insurance waiver each year.

2017-2018 Student Health Plan Information

For the 2017-18 school year, Aetna is the provider of Student Health Insurance for Miami University. The Miami-sponsored student health insurance plan includes nationwide coverage through Aetna's extensive national network of providers, as well as worldwide medical assistance.  

The student insurance plan covers preventative care, hospitalizations, surgery, emergency care, prescriptions and major medical benefits for treatment received to the extent specified in the policy. The policy year is August 1, 2017 to July 31, 2018.

As you investigate insurance coverage, please check to see if the Student Health Service at Miami University through TriHealth is listed as an in-network provider. 2017-2018 Student Health Plan Cost

The student health plan is $1,521 for 12 months of coverage or $884 for January 1, 2018 to July 31, 2018 (this is only available to new students starting in the Spring term).

Dependent Enrollment and Cost

If needed, you can enroll additional dependents (spouse, child, or children) through the Aetna portal. Enrollment and payment are made directly to Aetna, and the cost for dependents is:

  • Spouse is an additional $1,521 ($884 for Jan - July)
  • One child is $1,521 ($884 for January - July)
  • Two or more children are $3,042 ($1,768 for January - July)
