Transfer Tips

Students study in the Engineering building

Here are some helpful tips to ensure a smooth college transfer:

  • Request information and read everything you can about Miami, your academic major, transfer credit policies, and graduation requirements so you can make the most informed transfer decision.
  • Schedule a visit to get a feel for the campus and meet students, faculty, and staff.
  • Talk with a Miami admission representative. Our helpful staff can answer your questions and put you in touch with the resources you need.
  • Speak with a Miami representative who is visiting your community college. Our visit schedule is typically posted on your community college website as well.
  • Request a preliminary evaluation of transfer credits to better understand the types of classes you need to take during your first year at Miami.
  • Ask current students and counselors for firsthand accounts about Miami to get the best advice.
  • Apply for admission, keeping in mind these deadlines:
    • Spring semester: December 1
    • Fall semester: June 1
  • Check your application status online.
  • Request transcripts from your prior institution(s) and have these sent to Miami.
  • Apply for need-based aid using the FAFSA. Miami's federal school code is 003077. Submit the FAFSA by February 1 for priority scholarship consideration.
