Bioinformatics is an area that encompasses a wide range of computer resources for the management of DNA and protein sequence information as well as information about biological function.

The CBFG has a dedicated computer room facility that houses machines with

  • O/S X
  • WindowsXP
  • Windows 7
  • Linux (CentOS, BioLinux, Ubuntu)

on which are pre-installed a wide range of bioinformatics programs and utilities, including:

In collaboration with Miami University's High Performance Computing, we have access to the RedHawk Cluster that contains many bioinformatics analysis programs pre-installed and configured for parallel processing. As part of the Ohio University System, Miami University enjoys the availability of the resources located at the Ohio Supercomputer Center.

Training for all of these resources is available in the CBFG. These bioinformatic tools can also be made available for use by appropriate courses depending on the size of the class.
