2021 W. Fred Cottrell Distinguished Gerontology Alumni Awardees

Each year, Scripps Gerontology Center presents selected Miami University gerontology alumni with the W. Fred Cottrell Distinguished Gerontology Alumni award for outstanding leadership and achievement in the field of aging. This year, the award was given to two recipients: Angela Heath and Mark Kolada.

Angela Heath:

Heath acquired her MGS in 1982, then proceeded on to become a nationally recognized author and program developer. She has developed and managed many award-winning projects and campaigns including, the Eldercare Locator, Circle of Friends breast cancer awareness project, DC Caregivers’ Institute, and the Making the Link physician engagement project. Today, Angela Heath is the CEO of TKC Incorporated and offers speaking and training services, and serves as the Dean of the Virtual Speaking Academy.

Mark Kolada:

Kolada received his MGS with a concentration in long-term care administration in 1998. From there, Mark went on to work in the Assisted Living field before transitioning to being an Executive Director of a Continuing Care Retirement Community for 12 years. Mark is currently the Director of Operations Management at Life Care Services where he oversees management of multiple Life Plan communities.

 

 

 

Heath and Kolada received their award on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, during the Cottrell Alumni Award reception. In addition to their achievement, Heath and Kolada spoke to Miami University graduate students and alumni during a virtual lunchtime presentation on April 2 and April 14 about how to excel in a virtual world and how to display leadership in the field of long-term care.
