GreenHawks Media is a student-run, web-only platform for regional environmental news, events, research, projects, information, recreation and blogs. Student opportunities include managing content areas (like outdoor rec opportunities or water quality issues), photo and video work, website management, liaison to green groups in and around Oxford, and blogging.

The organization is open to communication-related majors (Media & Culture, Journalism, Speech Communication) who meet the eligibility requirements. MTN is a hands-on group that provides students with the opportunity to report the latest television news to the Miami and Oxford community. MTN is open to all majors who wish to gain more experience in broadcast news. Together, students work as a team to produce bi-weekly newscasts aired on Miami's cable channel, MUTV. Students produce stories on a number of topics from sports and entertainment, to health and hard news. Whether it's anchoring, reporting, or producing, MTN supports a well rounded foundation for either a career or just a passion for television news.

Students involved in Miami University Television produce original news, arts and education programming that airs on Time Warner Cable Channel 15. "Media Matters," for example, is a talk show where campus leaders debate local issues.

The Oxford Observer: Students in advanced reporting, writing and editing classes produce a weekly online news site covering the city of Oxford and its surrounding area. Students produce real stories for a real audience, while obtaining course credit.

WMSR is a student-run radio station, based in Williams Hall, playing everything from new indie rock and acoustic world beat to soul mashup and hip-hop. Its sports department broadcasts Miami games and it has a news department that could use your help!

SPJ

Miami's chapter of SPJ brings in speakers, hosts media-related programs like the annual Liberty Tree event at Miami and organizes contests on student-produced media. SPJ is a national organization dedicated to the perpetuation of a free press. It represents and supports some 9,000 journalists around the globe, including students studying at Miami and elsewhere.

Miami student-run Up fashion magazine publishes three times a year and features local trends, features, photo essays and columns. Students can get involved with writing, editing, design, photo and video work, trend blogging, or advertising and marketing.
