Independent reading courses may be taken only in consultation with, and the prior permission of, the instructor with whom the student wishes to pursue the study. Students desiring to register for independent reading must, prior to registration, prepare a program of study with the faculty member with whom they wish to work. It is that faculty member's decision to approve of and supervise such a program of study. Such approval is necessary for the student to register. The requisite forms for registering for independent study are available in the Philosophy Department office. Students should be aware that only 3 credit hours maximum of independent study can count towards the major.
