ETBD Major - Applied Concentration

The BA in Interactive Media Studies (IMS) is an interdisciplinary major that sits at the intersection of Design, Technology, and Business. The IMS major exposes students to each of these three foundational areas, which provide a foundation for students to customize an advanced concentration, to focus their experience on a particular area of interactive media studies.

The applied concentration is for students who have a second major and wish to position themselves as an expert in applying digital technology to that field.

There are a limited number of slots for current students; acceptance into the major is competitive and based on a number of criteria beyond GPA.

Admission Requirements

IMPORTANT: If you began your first year at Miami before August 2019, your DAR will reflect the older version of the degree. You should follow your DAR, in consultation with your advisor. If you want to use these new requirements (on this page) instead, talk to your advisor about shifting your DAR to the new degree program.

Graduation Requirements

124 total credit hours to graduate

IMS Major - 64 hours, including

  • Capstone Course (fulfills MPF capstone)
  • Internship (fulfills MPF Experiential Learning)

Miami Plan Foundation - 36 hours

(some hours overlap with IMS major)

Thematic Sequence - 9 hours outside the major

(can be fulfilled by a minor / 2nd major)

Remaining hours are Electives from any discipline. IMS students often use these hours to minor or double-major.

Applied Concentration Focus

Students in the applied track are required to have 21 credit hours in another major outside of IMS. Students are also welcome to take additional IMS classes as their schedule permits, to build additional expertise in particular areas of IMS. A listing of IMS elective courses is below.
