Carole Johnson will be joining CEC in February as the new director of marketing and communications. She received her undergraduate degree in journalism from Bowling Green State University and her master’s in strategic communication from Miami University. 

Outside of work, Johnson has two sons; one who is a graduate, and the other a current student.She is an avid reader, with her favorite genre being historical fiction. She also enjoys exercising and sports in general, her favorites being water sports and soccer.

In this role, she will be responsible for developing integrated and comprehensive marketing communications plans that are designed to help the division reach its enrollment goals and build its national and regional reputation.

Johnson has been at Miami since 2000 and has over 20 years of experience in integrated marketing and communications, with much of it being at Miami University. In her new position, she is most excited about growing and developing CEC’s audiences, as well as working on enrollment initiatives for the college.

“Some of my favorite things to do are writing and storytelling, so I can't wait to dig  in, meet the people within the College of Engineering and Computing, and generate content that highlights their work,” Johnson said.

In her most recent position as the associate director of University News and Communications, Johnson worked on media relations and content creation for both marketing and public relations initiatives. She has an extensive background in writing, having started her career as a journalist before pivoting toward strategic communications.

As the editor of Miami Matters, Johnson oversaw the production of the news department’s e-newsletter that features the achievements of faculty, staff, and students and news of the university. Johnson has taught courses in journalism and public speaking as an adjunct instructor within the Department of Media, Journalism, and Film at Miami.
