Miami University Commencement

The Miami University Commencement Ceremony is a beloved tradition — a culminating celebration of the accomplishments of our graduates and those who were with them along the way. Each fall and spring we look forward to coming together, not only to recognize the hard work, dedication, and commitment that leads up to this day; but also to reflect on the special journey — the Miami Experience — unique to each graduate, yet also shared by all Miamians.

Fall 2020

Friday, December 11, 2020, 3:00 p.m. - Virtual

With mass gathering restrictions still in place and as we continue to prioritize the health and safety of our campus communities, our December Commencement Ceremony will be held virtually. Please know that we too are extremely disappointed that we cannot welcome our students, families, friends and alumni to gather together on our campuses at this time.

As many of our Spring 2020 graduates had hoped to return in September to be individually recognized, the December virtual ceremony will recognize all of our 2020 graduates – all 2020 graduates’ names and honors will be shown during this ceremony.

Spring 2021

Currently scheduled for May 15, 2021, 10:30 a.m.

Format: In-person or virtual to be determined

We will continue to evaluate the feasibility of large gatherings and significant travel to and from Oxford by graduates, alumni, students and families during the first few months of 2021. Details will be announced as they become available.

We understand, value, and appreciate the importance of Commencement and the role it plays in recognizing and celebrating each student's Miami journey, significant achievements, and the transition to what comes next. We also appreciate that Commencement is so much more meaningful, impactful and moving in-person with friends and family present, than it is virtually.

There are many difficult uncertainties caused by the pandemic, and we appreciate your understanding and thank you for your patience as we continue to track the spread of COVID-19 and efforts to combat it including vaccinations, along with the continuing need to follow CDC, state and local health requirements, including those regarding gatherings.

Future Degree Candidates

Apply for graduation through your BannerWeb account for December 2020, January 2021, May 2021, or August 2021 graduation dates.

Students planning to graduate in August 2021 should apply to attend the Spring 2021 Commencement Ceremony, virtual or in-person. There is an exception for doctoral students as the Graduate School hosts a hooding ceremony in August 2021 for their summer doctoral candidates.
