Graduate program directors who have started in their roles within the past 5 years, although preference will be given to those who have started within the past 3 years.

Purpose and Description

Strengthening our graduate programs and establishing their reputation for excellence and student success is an important part of the vision for Miami’s future, and graduate program directors play a critical role in this area.

This FLC aims to build the capacity of new graduate program directors to effectively lead their graduate programs, and ensure they have a network of support and resources to do so.

 Activities

• Learn and apply skills in areas the FLC members identify as areas of interest/priority, such as:
  • Graduate recruitment and admissions.
  • Issues related to graduate education funding.
  • On-boarding and advising graduate students.
  • Supporting diverse graduate students.
  • Supporting graduate student mental health and well-being.
  • Developing, improving, and accrediting high quality programs.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Utilizing university systems (e.g., BI, CIM, Slate) to support graduate education.
  • University policies, with a focus on policies related to graduate students and programs.
  • Supervising GAs/RAs/TAs.
  • How to find mentorship, support, and answers.
• Contribute to a set of New Graduate Director orientation materials that can be used by future new graduate directors.
• Support other graduate directors by sharing resources, lessons learned, engaging in problem solving, and providing encouragement.
• Co-develop and propose one or more Lilly Conference presentations based on relevant topics that emerge from FLC work and lessons learned.
