Scenario 2

A fire in Pearson Hall destroyed my laboratory and all equipment that I use for my research. Will the University repair the building and replace my equipment?

The University will repair or replace the building and equipment and the departmental deductible is $5,000.

Scenario 1—University vehicle

A faculty member crossed the center line in a departmental van and hit another vehicle causing damage to the vehicle and the other driver sustained injuries. What costs must the department pay?

Departmental Responsibility

Since the vehicle belongs to the department and the losses were due to a university driver, the department will pay a deductible of $1,000.


Scenario 2—Rental vehicle

A faculty member crossed the center line in an Enterprise rental van and hit another vehicle causing damage to the vehicle and the other driver sustained injuries. What costs must the department pay?

Departmental Responsibility

The Enterprise rental agreement includes insurance. There is no departmental deductible.


Scenario 3—Rental vehicle

A staff member has an accident in a rental vehicle rented from someone other than Enterprise or National and declined insurance Insurance Determination at the time of the rental. The accident causes damage to the rental vehicle. What costs must the department pay?

Miami University policy requires the acceptance of liability and property damage insurance on all rentals; therefore the department will be responsible for the full price of the repairs.
