Stock Pitch Competition
We are pleased to announce the inaugural Miami University - Cleveland Research Stock Pitch Competition. The competition provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate their investment ideas and knowledge of the financial markets. Each team of 2-4 students will assemble a slide deck to pitch a long or short equity position with a 3-12 month horizon. Finalists will present in person at the Farmer School of Business on Friday, April 14th. The winner will receive a $1,000 prize.
First Round - April 5th
The first round will consist of students selecting and analyzing a long or short investment idea in the form of a written proposal. All presentations are to be submitted in PowerPoint format with no more than 20 slides. Ideas will be judged on the quality of the investment pick and the rationale. On Apr 7th, the top teams will be announced and advance to the final in-person competition.
Pre-Night Dinner & Finals – April 13th/14th
Top teams from Miami and other universities are invited to a pre-night dinner on Thursday in Oxford, hosted by Cleveland Research Company. The finals will be held in person at the Farmer School of Business, judged by Cleveland Research Company, and consist of a ten-minute presentation, followed by a ten-minute Q&A session. Presentations will be judged on the quality of the investment pick and rationale, the quality of the presentation, and the ability to field questions.

- State a clear investment thesis and identify the key catalysts for the business/stock
- Analyze the business model and key drivers
- Evaluate the industry and competition
- Evaluate the potential risks to the investment thesis/idea
- Utilize fundamental analysis and provide a price target

Detailed Time Line
April 5, 2023 – 5 PM
Email a summary of your conclusions and supporting analysis (PowerPoint). Submissions should be emailed to Tom Boulton (boultotj@miamioh.edu) no later than 5 PM. Late submissions will be disqualified.
April 7, 2023 – 5 PM
The finalists will be announced. Finalists advance to the in person finals to be held on April 14, 2023.
April 13, 2023 – 10 AM
Finalist presentations must be emailed to Cleveland Research Company. You will present this same set of slides for your in-person presentation the next day. Email your presentation to Vince Ciepiel (vciepiel@cleveland-research.com).
April 13, 2023 – 6 PM
Top teams from Miami and other universities are invited to a dinner in Oxford, hosted by Cleveland Research Company.
April 14, 2023 – Noon
The finals will be held in the Farmer School of Business. Top teams from invited universities will make a ten minute in person presentation of their analysis followed by a ten minute question and answer session with the Cleveland Research Company judges. The winners will be announced at the conclusion of the competition.
- $1,000 cash prize will be awarded to the winning tea
- $500 cash price will be awarded to the runner up team
- Networking reception in Farmer School of Business Commons for the students and judges with some refreshments
