-Analytics describes the extensive use of data to guide evidence-based decision-making. This field has emerged during a time when massively large data sets are being collected throughout society. Analytics lives at the junction between numerous traditional disciplines including information systems and statistics. This co-major provides a framework for thinking about the collection and use of so-called "big data" and students will develop skills for handling structured and unstructured data sets and for developing models to predict behavior in data-rich environments.
Analytics and the ability to effectively leverage large amounts of information are simply becoming pervasive across many disciplines. It is truly inter-disciplinary in nature. The analytical techniques and abilities are the common base to which the various disciplines provide context specific data, problems, opportunities and approaches. To meet this need the inter-divisional Analytics co-major provides students with the skills to deal with big data and will complement the pursuit of a major in any division. The core of the co-major provides some necessary common ground and the tracks will provide the contexts. We propose two initial tracks, but will encourage and support the development of other context specific tracks.

Information Systems and Analytics
The fields of Business Analytics (BA) and Information Systems (IS) have become increasingly intertwined, with intersections in the domains of data skills, programming to manipulate and massage data, and systems development for both collection of data and dissemination of information. In light of this trend, we now offer a major that is a combination of our previous information systems major and Analytics Co-major. The Information Systems and Analytics Major provides managerial and technical skills to create, control, and leverage information and data resources of an organization. The major offers two tracks.
The Information Systems Track focuses on foundational theory and practice in content areas such as business process management, database, data communications, security, systems analysis & development, and project management. The track also addresses contemporary topics including cloud computing, mobile commerce, enterprise systems, business intelligence, data mining, and big data management. It emphasizes the application of technology and information management skills to solving business problems.
