Program Overview

Passport targets talented students who have strong academic credentials and have an interest in studying business. Passport students will receive comprehensive academic support along with professional development and service learning opportunities.

It is our goal to create an environment of persistence that empowers undergraduate FSB students through their self-identities to excel in leadership, innovative thought, authentic critical thinking, and problem-solving for top-level opportunities within Miami University and after graduation.

During the four-year high-touch student success program, you will learn valuable skills related to transitioning to college, personal development, time management, study skills, degree planning, internships, and career development for greater employment opportunities after graduating from Miami.

Passport Program Benefits

Students enrolled in the FSB Passport Program will have access to the following resources and benefits:

  • Coaching and mentoring from the Directors of Student Engagement, Organizations and Diversity
  • Directed Meetings with and access to FSB Dean and key leaders in the Business School
  • Peer mentors from FSB student organizations such as the Multicultural Business Association
  • Individualized academic support and development through the Rinella Learning Center
  • Guidance from FSB academic, career, and study abroad advisors
  • Letter of recommendation from the FSB Director of Student Engagement Organizations and Diversity
  • Passport-specific First Year Experience Course section for (BUS 106) during the first semester 
  • Access to the Passport Living and Learning Community

Passport Program Requirements

Students enrolled in the FSB Passport Program will be required to complete the following:

  • Students must have an FSB major
  • Meet with an assigned academic advisor each semester 
  • Meet with Jennifer Troutman each semester
  • Attend tutoring sessions for at least one course each semester
  • Attend faculty office hours each semester
  • Live in Passport Living and Learning Community
  • Participate in professional development opportunities such as:
    • Attend the Meet the B-Orgs event (Fall or Spring)
    • Complete an informational interview or attend a workshop
    • Join a student organization
    • Take a leadership role in the student organization
  • Complete Passport success development goals (grade-specific)

Passport Bootcamp: Early Move-In (week prior to the first day of classes)

This pre-semester boot camp is only open to Passport students who have enrolled and have been accepted into the Passport Cohort program. There is no cost to the student to attend the boot camp. All expenses for early housing, dining, and activities are all covered by the Passport Program. Parent/guardian bringing their student on the first day (move-in) of the bootcamp will have Welcome Lunch, meet FSB Faculty and Staff, and help their student move into the Passport LLC Residence Hall.

Featured Activities at Passport Bootcamp

At the Passport Bootcamp, you will:

  • Meet Passport Student Ambassadors - Panel discussion on how to succeed in college
  • Obtain advice on professional etiquette (includes etiquette dinner and communication tips)
  • Connect and network with key influencers on campus: faculty members, administrators, and staff: FSB Careers, Deans, and faculty from First Year Integrated Core (FYIC)
  • Explore exciting opportunities with over 40 FSB Student Organizations. (hint: employers source talent through organizations)
  • Identify and leverage strengths through the CliftonStrengths Assessment tool…take your talents to the next level!
  • Connect with your personal FSB Academic Advisor on class scheduling, degree completion, and time management
  • Take a tour of the state-of-the-art Farmer School of Business and Miami campus
