Automatic Visa Revalidation

If you are traveling to Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean (review islands), it may be possible to re-enter the U.S. with an expired visa. You can re-validate your expired visa automatically provided you meet the following criteria:

  • You have maintained legal status.
  • Your trip is less than 30 days
  • You do not apply for a new visa
  • You do not travel to a country other than Canada, Mexico, or an adjacent Caribbean island which is included in the automatic revalidation provisions
  • You are not a citizen holding a passport from a country identified by the U.S. as a sponsor of terrorism.

It is recommended that you print out the guidance from the Department of State and U.S. Customs and Border Protection for documentation as a precaution when utilizing this policy.

Please note that you should carry all other required documents as instructed on Traveling Outside the U.S.
