The HCWE sponsors two full-day writing retreats in both the fall and spring semesters and a 4-day retreat, cosponsored with the colleges, each winter term. Up to 40 attendees (graduate students and faculty) gather to write quietly while we provide a light breakfast and lunch, breaks, power strips, and coffee and tea all day from 8:30-4:00. Writing consultants are available if you'd like to talk with someone about your writing.

Check back in late summer for our fall dates and registration form.

JOIN US REMOTELY!  The April 4 writing retreat will be held remotely, rather than in person at the Howe Center. You can still accomplish your writing goals and join us by clicking the Register button below. Here's how the remote/virtual retreat will work:

  1. Within a day after registering, you will receive a Google Calendar invitation from the HCWE. Accept and put the invite on your calendar.
  2. The day before the retreat, you'll receive a reminder to check-in the next day between 8:30-4:00, with a link for doing so.
  3. When you're ready to join the retreat on Saturday, click the link in the reminder email which will take you to a check-in document to verify your info and enter a goal/intention for the day.
  4. After checking in to the retreat on Saturday, get started writing!
  5. OPTIONAL: For those who would also like to virtually join other writers in a Webex video chat (no sound), the HCWE will host a Webex meeting from 8:30-4:00.  The reminder email and the calendar invitation will provide the Webex meeting link.
  6. You can optionally check in at the end of your day to update the status of your goal.
