Student Technology Fee

Competitive Tech Fee Process Canceled for 2020/21

After an in-depth conversation about how best to handle the competitive tech fee process for the 2020/21 academic year, IT Services and the Office of the Provost have decided to cancel it for this year in order to focus student tech fee expenditures on direct needs for remote learning and instruction. Please see the IT News article for a full explanation.

Tech Fee Overview

A pool of funds from the Student Technology Fee has been created to stimulate the development of innovative student-focused technology projects on the Oxford campus. The Student Technology Fee funds programs and services that support students in achieving their academic program goals and enhance their life at Miami.

Any student, faculty member, staff member, group, or department on the Oxford campus may submit a proposal. Proposals must be submitted in accordance with the approved tech fee guidelines for expenditures (below).

The funds are divided into three pools, as follows:

  • Ongoing Student Services: Provides funds to keep technology in classrooms up to date, fund positions dedicated to student support, pay wages for IT Services student staff, and provide maintenance for software in support of student services.
  • Dean's Allocations: This portion is allocated to the School, the Colleges, and the Libraries for each dean to respond to student technology needs in their division.
  • Competitive Proposal Process: Provides funds for the innovative student-focused technology projects submitted by students, faculty, or staff. Note: The Competitive Proposal Process has been CANCELED for FY2021.
