Network failover testing scheduled for July 20 - 23, some brief outages expected

IT Services will be beginning its annual network failover testing on Wednesday, July 20. This testing enables IT Services to exercise the resiliency of our network systems to provide highly available and stable core communications systems for all Ohio campuses of the University. Below is a daily schedule of the work to be performed that week.

Wednesday, July 20 - Distribution Network

Beginning at 6 a.m. IT Services will be testing the distribution links to all buildings. This work should take approximately 60 minutes to complete, and no service disruptions are expected.

Thursday, July 21 - Internet

Beginning at 6 a.m. IT Services will be testing our main internet router. This work should take approximately 60 minutes to complete, and no service disruptions are expected. There is the possibility that internet and VPN access could be disrupted intermittently, both on and off-campus.

Friday, July 22 - Core Network and Telephony/VoIP

Between 6 - 7 a.m. IT Services will be performing core switch failover testing. There are no service disruptions expected during this work.  There will also be VoIP failover testing, although no service disruptions are expected.

Saturday, July 23 - Data Center Network

Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., IT Services will be conducting failover testing of Data Center network switches. The redundant switches being tested serve most of the components in the Hoyt Data Center. No disruptions in service are expected, however, IT Services staff will be on-site monitoring the failover of service. This is essential testing required to minimize future unplanned service disruptions.
