The 2025 Suicide Prevention Week will be held Sept. 28-Oct. 3.
The Student Counseling Service and the Suicide Prevention Team are proud to sponsor Suicide Prevention Week. Our goal is to help students increase awareness of mental health concerns, especially depression and suicidal thoughts, and to promote mental health resources and suicide prevention in hopes of improving the emotional health of those in our campus community. Suicide Prevention Week will be held from Sept. 28-Oct. 3, 2025, and includes the activities listed below.
Sunday, Sept. 28
Out of Darkness 2K Suicide Prevention Walk (Oxford area/Miami University) - Oxford Uptown Park, 1 p.m.
Open to all Miami University students and employees, and to Oxford-area community members.
- Visit mental health-focused resource tables.
- Show your support for this important cause.
- Participate in activities honoring those who are struggling/have struggled with thoughts of suicide.
- Hear from student and community speakers.
- Walk the 2K route to bring more attention to this issue.
- Join or start a walk team and fundraise for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).

Connected in Kindness: Painting Rocks for Suicide Prevention Week
11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Armstrong Atrium
As part of Suicide Prevention Week, join student groups from the office of student wellness to create your own kindness rock. Students will receive all the materials they need to paint inspiring messages and uplifting designs that promote resilience, positivity, and a sense of community connection. Leave your rock behind to encourage others or take it with you as a reminder of strength and hope.

Pumpkins and Peace of Mind: Mental Health Workshop

Take a mindful pause this fall with a relaxing and creative activity, pumpkin painting. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how everyday mindfulness practices can help reduce stress and bring more balance into your life.

Friday, Oct. 3
Drop-In Horse Therapy
4-5 p.m.
Equestrian Center, 4950 Trenton Oxford Road, across from Ditmer Parking Lot and Miami University Police Department
All are welcome to stop by to pet, feed, and interact with the horses. Student counseling service will share self-care tips for starting the semester on the “right hoof,” and free SCS swag will be available. The event will be held rain or shine.
