Types of Aid

College is an investment that pays dividends for a lifetime. You have a lot of options when it comes to finding financial aid to pay for college. Before you borrow money, make sure you understand the types of aid that are available and your repayment responsibilities.

To apply for state/federal financial aid, including grants, scholarships, loans, and federal work-study funds, all eligible students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually by Miami’s priority deadline using Miami’s Federal School Code of 003077.

These are funds that typically do not have to be repaid. Gift Aid includes the following:

• Grants
• Scholarships
• Waivers

Self-help is your contribution toward your education using a combination of:

• Educational loans
• 529 College Savings Plans
• Student employment such as Federal Work-Study
• Payment plan

• Winter and Summer Term Financial Aid 
• Financial Aid for Study Abroad
• Outside Scholarships 
• Appeals
