Spring College of Liberal Arts and Applied Science Graduate Recognition Ceremony

The College of Liberal Arts and Applied Science (CLAAS) is honored to recognize your academic and personal accomplishments and will be holding recognition ceremonies on Friday, May 14, 2021.

You are invited to attend the May 14 CLAAS ceremony at 7:00 PM at Yager Stadium, Oxford Ohio.

At this ceremony you will receive your diploma cover, be individually recognized as your name is read, and be congratulated personally by the Dean or an Associate Dean. A photographer will be stationed at each end of the stage, so please be mindful of pausing for your picture. Please watch the weather and dress accordingly.

The ceremony is outdoors and will be held rain or shine.  Please watch the weather and dress accordingly.

Please note that ceremony attendance is not mandatory.   Your diploma and an official academic transcript will be mailed separately to you approximately four to six weeks following the commencement date, provided there are no holds on your academic record and you have met degree requirements. One Stop - Diplomas.

Event Parking

Parking for graduates and guests will occur no less than 90 minutes prior to the ceremony. However, Yager stadium gates will open no less than 60 minutes prior to the ceremony. Students and guests will not be permitted to park at Yager Stadium. 

All graduates and guests will be directed to the West Millett entrance off Sycamore Street. Millett Hall is located at 500 E. Sycamore St., Oxford, OH 45056. Guests with handicapped placards will be directed to alternate parking areas. University Police will be directing traffic. Please follow their directions for parking.  

Accessible shuttles will be running continuously from the accessible parking areas to Yager.

Graduates - Arrival Instructions

Please report to Yager Stadium by 6:30 pm at the latest with your cap and gown in hand, as academic attire is required. Once you clear the security check, you may put on your academic regalia and proceed to the following location to pick up your name card and special facemask for the ceremony and then line up for the procession:

You will pick up your name card and mask at the concessions area beneath the appropriate stands. Food will not be available at any of the concessions.

  • Degree Candidates: last names starting with A-L: WEST side of Yager Stadium, concession stands numbered 4
  • Degree Candidates: last names starting with M-Z: EAST side of Yager Stadium, concession stands numbered 5 and 9

Face mask and name card pick up

Once you get your name card, please proofread it and make any needed modifications to how you want your name announced at the ceremony. Please take the time to write your name phonetically if you think there is a possibility your name could be mispronounced by the readers at the ceremony.  Black markers will be available for corrections.  Keep your name card with you for  the ceremony.

Line-up starts at 6:45 PM for procession, which will start promptly at 7:00 PM. 

  • Degree Candidates: last names starting with A-L:  WEST side of Yager Stadium, gather near the green flag (northwest corner of the stadium)
  • Degree Candidates: last names starting with M-Z: EAST side of Yager Stadium, gather near the bright yellow flag (northeast corner of the stadium)

2021 Recognition Ceremony Seating

Seating Arrangement

A Faculty Marshal will lead the processional into the arena and direct candidates to their seating. At the appropriate time during the ceremony, marshals will direct you to the stage. You will return to your seating for the remainder of the ceremony, the singing of the Alma Mater, and the recessional.

Guest Ticketing Information

The ceremony is expected to run approximately 90 minutes. This will be a ticketed event. No tickets are required for students, but tickets are required for up to six guests. Instructions about ordering guest tickets have been sent to you in a separate email.

Ceremonies will be livestreamed for viewing by those unable to attend in person. You will find the livestream on the University Commencement website.

Safety Protocols

We are working closely with the Butler County Health District to ensure proper distancing and health/safety strategies are in place to help minimize the risk of coronavirus transmission. All participants, graduates, guests, and staff will be required to wear a facemask and maintain social distancing during the events.

Despite the University’s best efforts, it is not possible to eliminate the risk of positive COVID-19 cases on our campuses, and we cannot guarantee that persons present on our campuses will not be exposed to or become infected with COVID-19. The risk of exposure and possible infection is real and present in any university community where large numbers of people regularly interact. By electing to visit Miami University and attend a commencement ceremony, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.
