How to stream a virtual event

Beginning August 17, Miami University will use two streaming services to host virtual events, WebEx Event and Zoom.

Please follow the instructions below when joining our virtual events.

Instructions for using Webex

Join Webex on a desktop

  • Check to see if your event requires advance registration to receive a streaming link.
  • Select the join link in your email invitation.
  • On the Event Information page, enter your name, email address, and the event password. Then select Join Now.

  • Join the event by selecting "Join from your browser."

  • You will only see the speakers and not other participants.
  • Choose how you want to hear
    Select your computer audio screen when joining webex.
    Use computer for audio (default) ̶ Use your computer with a headset or speakers.

    Call in ̶ If you prefer to use your phone for audio, dial in when the meeting starts. A list of the global call-in numbers is available in your meeting invite. Choose this option if your Internet connection is slow.

    Your microphone will automatically be muted when you join. Some events the host will use the Q&A chat box to receive questions. Other events the host will allow microphones to be engaged during the end of the event. The host will tell you which option is preferred.

Join Webex on a mobile device

Before you connect to an event from your mobile device, you must install Cisco Webex Meetings. If you already have the Cisco WebEx Meetings app installed on your mobile device, it launches automatically. Otherwise, you are taken to the installation page.

  • Check to see if your event requires advance registration to receive a streaming link.
  • Tap Join in your email invitation when it's time to join the meeting. Write down the event/meeting number and password if assigned before tapping Join, you will need it in future steps.
  • Tap Join Meeting, enter the event/meeting number and tap Join.
  • Enter the event/meeting password and tap OK.
  • Click Connect to a device to join the meeting from a compatible video device.
  • Tap Join.
  • You will only see the speakers and not other participants.

Instructions for using Zoom

 

Before joining a Zoom meeting on a computer or mobile device, you can download the Zoom app from the Download Center or mobile device store. Otherwise, you will be prompted to download and install Zoom when you click the join link.

Join Zoom on a desktop

  • Check to see if your event requires advance registration to receive a streaming link.
  • Click on Join a Meeting in your email invitation when it's time to join the meeting. No sign in required.
  • When the launching screening appears click on Open Zoom.

Join zoom on a mobile device

  • Check to see if your event requires advance registration to receive a streaming link.
  • Write down the meeting ID number and password if assigned from your email and you will need this in future steps.
  • Open the Zoom mobile app.
  • Join a virtual event using one of these methods:
    • Tap Join a Meeting if you want to join without signing in.
    • If you have an account sign in to Zoom then tap Join.
  • Enter the meeting ID number. If you're not signed in, enter a display name.
  • Select if you would like to connect audio and/or video and tap Join Meeting.
