E-Campus Awards

Online learning is a vital part of the Miami University Regionals experience. Thousands of students interact with hundreds of faculty through E-Campus. The E-Campus awards recognize those that are thriving in the online environment.
Miami University Regionals E-Campus Distinguished Student Award
The E-Campus Distinguished Student Award honors one (1) student annually at Miami Regionals who has excelled in online courses by being engaged and succeeding academically.

2021: Matthew Alldredge, Health Information TechnologyNominated by Donna Evans for being a leader among his peers in online courses. His nominator commented that, “As a full-time employee and busy family member, Matt sees the benefit of being in an online program. Matt is a leader in every sense of the word earning the respect of not only his professors but his peers as well.” |
Criteria
Nominations are solicited from faculty teaching online. Nominations will be considered against criteria, determined by soliciting feedback from online faculty.
- 3.0 GPA (standard for merit-based awards)
- Enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at Miami Regionals.
- Minimum 50% of current semester course load at Miami Regionals is online.
- Exhibits engagement with other students and faculty in online courses.
- Contributes to one’s own, and other students’, learning in online courses.
- Consistently produces exemplary assignments.

2020: Kelly Donathan, Information TechnologyKelly Donathan, a senior Information Technology major, was nominated by Donna Evans for being a leader among her peers in online courses. Her nominator commented that, “[Kelly] is a leader who sets the tempo for her group. [She] has been willing to consider new ideas about culture and strategy in a thoughtful way. Her positive and constructive feedback always moves the class forward.” |

2019: Brittney Roaden, Communication StudiesBrittney Roaden, Communication Studies major, who was nominated by Leland Spencer for her engagement in online courses as well as her exceptional dedication to scholarship. Her nominator commented that, “Brittney is the model student for an online class - excelling in her own work and intellectually generous in her interaction with that of others. I cannot think of another semester in my whole career when I’ve encouraged a student to submit three different papers to academic conferences - but in this case, I did.” |

2018: Tessa Jones, NursingTessa Jones, a Nursing student, was nominated by Robert Weber for her engagement with other students and her academic performance in online courses. Her nominator commented that, “She reaches out to any student in her class to help. During J term she took a very difficult heredity class and again tried to connect daily with others in the class.” |

Miami University Regionals E-Campus Excellence in Online Teaching Award
The Miami University Regionals E-Campus Excellence in Online Teaching Award honors one (1) online faculty member annually at Miami Regionals whose work epitomizes the University’s ideals of dedication to, and excellence in, teaching in the online environment by engaging online students and contributing to student success.

2021: Theresa KulbagaTheresa Kulbaga, Professor in ENG & LLW, was nominated by student, Jesseca Crosen, for making her course engaging and fun while still challenging students. Her nominator commented that, “Despite being an online course Dr.Kulbaga created a very open learning environment that really encouraged us to learn from each other as much as our assigned work. She also gave us creative assignments that made the class even more fun while still challenging us to engage with the material. She was also always quick to answer questions and give helpful or encouraging feedback. Dr. K's class was truly the best online course I have ever taken.” |
Criteria
All faculty members who have taught fully-online courses with Miami University Regionals E-Campus for a minimum of one (1) year are eligible to be nominated for this award. Nominations may be submitted by any member of the campus community including faculty, staff and students.
Award recipient will receive a $500 stipend and be named as one of Miami Regionals representatives the GC3 and SOCHE award ceremonies
In evaluating Excellence in Online Teaching, the award Selection Committee will examine evidence of teaching that:
- is creative and innovative.
- engages students with content as well as with other
- learners.
- stimulates students to think critically and apply their
- learning.
- promotes understanding of contexts.
- inspires and encourages student learning.
- creates opportunities for reflection and action.

2020: Susan BaimSusan Baim, Professor in Commerce, was nominated by student, Hank Reed, for being an excellent professor, mentor, and asset to the Commerce program. Her nominator commented that, “I can state with 100% certainty as a senior member of a global technology firm, she makes learning fun and incorporates her experience and knowledge into the classroom that is beneficial for a diverse audience of all backgrounds. I’m proud to be in the Miami Regionals program with her instruction and leadership.” |
2019: Jill Gomez, Languages, Literature & WritingJill Gomez, Senior Lecturer in Languages, Literatures, & Writing, who was nominated by her colleague, Leah Henson, for her excellent communication with her students in online courses. Her nominator said, “In teaching the 100- and 200-level online Spanish courses, Jill inspires and encourages student learning, promotes understanding of contexts, and creates opportunities for reflection and action. She does this with her instructor presences and communication via email and especially through the detailed feedback she provides students through Canvas.” |

2018: Tom Mays, CommerceTom Mays, Assistant Professor in Commerce, received multiple nominations for this award, nearly all from students. The nominations spoke to his innovation in online courses and exhibited his success in engaging students online. One nominator said, “Tom is one of the best online instructors I have had, although he teaches online I always feel like he is in the room with me. He is quick to answer questions, address any concerns and make every student feel important.” |
