Testing Accommodations

Students with disabilities that impact their test-taking ability can be approved for exam accommodations. Student Disability Services is committed to providing an equitable testing environment for students. Exam accommodations may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Distraction-reduced space
  • Extended time
  • Assistive technology (e.g. CCTV, screen-reader software)
  • Accessible formats (e.g. Word Doc, large print, braille)
  • Accessible table
  • Access to a computer for essay exams
  • Reader/scribe/scantron assistance

Scheduling

Students must schedule an exam in the Students Accessing Miami system (SAM) no less than 2 business days before the exam.

Faculty Exam Submission

  • Faculty must submit exams to the SDS office by 12 pm (noon) the day before the scheduled exam.
  • If the exam is not received by this time, it may be necessary to reschedule the exam for a different day or time.
  • The guidelines for when exams must be received by the SDS Office are intended to decrease the stress and anxiety of students who show up to take an exam at the testing center when the exam has not yet been received.  This will improve the student’s performance on the exam by reduced stress and anxiety.
  • Additionally, to appropriately proctor the number and types of exams the SDS administers each semester, the staff needs ample time to print the exam and to prep the testing space to meet ADA sanctioned accommodations and faculty special instructions.
