GPA Exemptions
The Cliff Alexander Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life in partnership with the Panhellenic Association, Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and Interfraternity Council will not be granting any academic exemptions to join fraternal organizations at Miami University. Academic success is the most important value of our organizations, and we expect all potential new members to have a 2.5 GPA when joining a Panhellenic, MGC, or NPHC chapter or a 2.75 GPA when joining an Interfraternity Council fraternity. In addition, students must have earned at least 12 credit hours to be eligible to join. See Membership of Fraternities or Sororities at Miami University in the Student Handbook for the full policy.
This expectation is supported by each of our chapters which uphold their own academic standards, many of which are even more rigorous than the 2.5/2.75 threshold. We believe in setting up students who join our organizations for academic success and therefore will not grant any exemptions for the recruitment process. This decision is supported by the Dean of Students Office in accordance with the established policy regarding membership in fraternal organizations at Miami University.
