Miami University Police Department

The Miami University Police Department (MUPD) is composed of 29 sworn police officers commissioned by the State of Ohio, 6 communication specialists and 4 civilian support staff. Our mission is to maintain a safe community through collaboration, service, protection and enforcement with the goal of achieving a collective vision for a better future.

The MUPD headquarters is located at 4945 Oxford-Trenton Road (State Route 73) across from the John W. Brown Stables. MUPD maintains four substations on the Oxford Campus, allowing officers to be more accessible and available to meet and interact with students.

MUPD promotes campus safety in the following ways:

  • Officers are always on duty, patrolling the campus on foot, on bikes, and in cars 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
  • Officers respond to calls from the public, initiate enforcement action when they observe a crime, and engage in proactive patrol
  • MUPD works cooperatively with the Oxford police and other local law enforcement agencies
  • MUPD works cooperatively with the Office of Community Standards to enforce Miami's Code of Student Conduct

Miami Police sponsor the following crime prevention and safety awareness programs:

  • Emergency phones on campus
  • SafeRide service offered through Butler County Regional Transit Authority (BCRTA) call 513-785-5237 or toll free 855-42-BCRTA
