How to Request a Housing and Dining Accommodation

Students who would like to request a housing or dining accommodation request due to a disability-related need should follow the below steps:

Students New to Disability Services

  1. Affiliate with Disability Services.
  2. Submit disability verification that meets documentation guidelines.
  3. Attend an Access Consultation with an access coordinator to discuss your accommodation request.
  4. Once steps 1-3 are completed and you are formally affiliated for services, your Miller Center Access Coordinator will provide instructions for submitting your request to be reviewed by the Housing Accommodation Committee.

Students Currently Affiliated with Disability Services

Students currently affiliated with the Miller Center may initiate a housing/dining accommodation request by contacting their access coordinator. Additional documentation may be requested which speaks directly to the need for accommodation.

Appeal Process

To appeal a housing or dining accommodation decision the following information should be submitted to SDS@MiamiOH.edu or your assigned coordinator:

  • Written statement from medical provider that includes detailed explanation of why the recommended accommodations and/or support services will not provide equal access to the residential experience and mitigate barriers related to the student’s disability.

Additional information submitted will be reviewed by the Miller Center Director. The requested information must be included for a complete appeal to be reviewed. Incomplete appeals will be denied. Notice of a decision will be provided within 7-10 business days of the Director's review. All appeal decisions are final. Students who wish to file a formal grievance may do so by contacting the Office of Equity and Equal Opportunity.
