Organizations

Below are cultural groups and student organizations advised by staff in the Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion. Are you looking for a specific cultural organization? Visit The HUB and choose the "Cultural and Diversity" category when searching for organizations.

Black Leadership Coalition (BLC)

The Black Leadership Coalition is a collective of leadership representatives from the Black student organizations at Miami University. BLC serves to provide a structured space for the exchange of ideas and encourages collaborative event planning among organizations. The coalition hosts regular leadership meetings, Black town hall meetings, and service opportunities for Black student organizations.

Black Student Action Association (BSAA)

The Black Student Action Association was the first multicultural organization on campus. BSAA was formed by the Black students of Miami University in 1967 to increase Black representation on campus and to better the conditions of Black students. BSAA hosts social, professional development, and advocacy events throughout the year such as the annual homecoming dance, holiday party, Hashtag Lunchbag community service event and more. The organizations seeks to provide a home away from home for Black students looking to find community on campus.

They also recognize BSAA's duty to find a keen balance between hosting social events and raising awareness on issues affecting the Black student community, which they fulfill by participating in university education panels, discussions on experiences, and raising civic awareness. BSAA members are diverse and represent a wide array of majors, backgrounds, and experiences. They belong to many other student organizations including academic and cultural organizations, Greek life, club sports and religious organizations as well. All are welcome!

Diversity Affairs Council (DAC)

The Diversity Affairs Council is committed to enhancing the climate of respect for diversity at Miami. The council is dedicated to learning more about diversity in its complexities and exposing members to new experiences. They work to foster more co-sponsorship of programming efforts and promote the activities of other student groups and administrative offices who are interested in issues of diversity. They strive to channel the energy, interest, activity, and information within the university community to the best advantage.

The DAC serves as a venue in which:

  • Coalitions, alliances and friendships will be built within the intercultural community of multicultural and diverse student organizations and their membership.
  • Issues of climate, policy, procedure, and curriculum will be analyzed and challenged in order to improve the environment for Miami’s student body.
  • By planning their calendars together, one cohesive student voice will be heard from the leaders of Miami’s multicultural and diverse student organizations to offer change and challenge.

UNIDOS

The goal of UNIDOS is to promote the understanding and appreciation of diversity on campus through the celebration of Latinx and Hispanic culture. This organization strives to be a sustainable support system that will help each individual with academic, professional, and social growth. They create a family away from home, somewhere to belong. They have a diverse group of students with cultural roots from all over Latin and South America, Spain, and the Caribbean. They envision a more inclusive campus, uno donde somos UNIDOS juntos!
