Maintenance/Repair Technician
General Function
Assists in maintaining University facilities by performing basic mechanical and craft repairs
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities—Essential Functions
- Performs basic carpentry tasks including replacing windows, hanging and fixing doors, repairing tile floors and ceiling, and hanging shelves, etc.
- Performs basic plumbing tasks including fixing leaks, replacing sinks, commodes and faucets, etc.
- May perform basic electrical tasks including replacing switches, outlets, dimmer, clocks, and light fixtures, etc.
- May perform basic mechanical tasks and preventive maintenance on electric motors and small appliances.
- May perform basic maintenance on AC/heating system including replacing belts and filters.
- May perform basic custodial tasks including sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming.
Reporting Relationships
Direction Received: Reports to supervisor of unit's maintenance section (i.e. Area Shop Supervisor, Plant Maintenance Supervisor, or Housekeeping Manager)
Direction Given: May provide occasional monitoring and training of student employees
Minimum Requirements
Requires a high school diploma or GED, six months experience in any mechanical/trade field, and completion of MRW or BRW training. An equivalent combination can be substituted for education and experience requirements. Requires driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics
- Basic knowledge of simple mechanical repair
- Basic knowledge of tools
- Mechanical aptitude
Working Conditions
Physical effort usually requires considerable walking, standing, and lifting materials weighing 25 to 50 pounds. Periodic assignments given which entail dealing with modestly unpleasant situations. Some possibility of personal risk due to accidents.
