Registration fee for Lorée Oboe Day is $25. An online registration form may be found below.
College age students should provide an additional $25 check to be refunded upon arrival.
Students must register and mail their check by March 26 for a T-shirt.

We will have a catered lunch, and parents of high school students will have the opportunity to meet with Dr. Chris Tanner, Chair of the Miami University Department of Music, in an information session about the university and our music program.

Visitors to Miami's campus will need to obtain a parking pass. You may do so on the Miami Parking site.

Lorée Oboe Day Competition

The Miami University Lorée Day Competition for Oboe and Bassoon aims to foster attention to the aesthetic, technical and expressive qualities of solo playing among college and high school students. Judging criteria will favor beauty of tone, lyricism and individual interpretation. It also aims to inspire young players to have fun learning the "fun"damentals of oboe playing through the memorization and performance of scales in a Scale Bee, imitating the traditional spelling bee.


College Level (to Age 24, except if in a degree program, then no age limit), Limit: 20 students. Repertoire listed below. Pianists provided.

  • 1st Prize: $500, offered by F. Lorée (afternoon performance)
  • 2nd Prize: $250 (afternoon performance)
  • 3rd Prize: $125 offered by Double or Nothing Reeds

High School: Grades 9-12, Marcello - Concerto for Oboe in D minor, mvt. 1 pianists provided.

  • 1st Prize: $500 (afternoon performance), offered by F. Lorée
  • 2nd Prize: $200 , Offered by Carlos Coelho Woodwinds
  • 3rd Prize: $125, offered by Bocal Majority and Operation O.B.O.E. Camps

Scale Bee:

  • 1st Prize: $125 in each category, offered by F. Lorée
  • 2nd Prize: Prize Reedmaking Surprise from ROM Reeds, Cincinnati
  • 3rd Prize: Prize Reedmaking Surprise!
    • Grades: 8 & 9 (All major scales to high D), Chromatic Scale—all memorized
    • Grades: 5,6,7 (Major scales: up to 4 flats or 4 sharps, memorized)

Criteria for judging: Tone, Intonation, Technique. And, Musicality & Artistry in College and High School levels.
