Each year, a CEC faculty member is recognized for their exceptional teaching. This year, it was DJ Rao.

DJ Rao, associate professor in the department of computer science and software engineering, was awarded the 2018 Arthur Olson Generational Outstanding Teaching Excellence Award.

Rao, who has taught at Miami since 2005, received his award during the Spring 2018 Commencement Ceremony for the College of Engineering and Computing.

Jim Kiper, chair of the computer science and software engineering department, presented Rao with the award.

“When I ask students about their favorite professor, Dr. Rao is frequently mentioned. Of course, they then add that his courses are difficult, but he facilitates learning of that difficult material. I have used some of the course materials that he has created and have admired the creativity and innovation of his pedagogy,” Kiper said.

This award is one of the two most prestigious awards CEC bestows on its faculty, the other being the Outstanding Research Award, which will be awarded in the fall. The 2017 winner of both awards was Kumar Singh, professor in the mechanical and manufacturing engineering department.
