CEC faculty & staff host first annual food drive

Back in December, faculty and staff of Miami’s College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) held their first food drive during the holiday season.

The drive, spearheaded by the CEC Dean’s office and Candace Taylor, Administrative Assistant for Student Recruitment and Retention, took place from Dec. 5 to Dec. 20. Items that were donated included boxed and canned foods, as well as soap, body wash and shampoo. A box of knit hats, socks and underwear was even anonymously donated.

All proceeds went to Oxford Community Choice Pantry, whose mission is to “alleviate hunger and provide nutrition information to the families and individuals in need who live in the Talawanda School District,” according to their webpage.

Taylor’s idea to participate in a food drive was a major success, and she hopes to make it an annual event.

“I felt inspired [and thought] that we should do something to give back to the community,” she said.
