Ohio's Department of Higher Education awards funding to support Robotics program

Recently, CEC received an award from Ohio’s Department of Higher Education (ODHE).

The award, titled “Regionally Aligned Priorities in Delivering Skills (RAPIDS),” is pooled by Miami’s Boldly Creative Initiative fund to support the future Robotics program.RAPIDS Funded Robot

According to ODHE’s website, the goal of RAPIDS is to make “strategic investments that foster a resilient workforce ecosystem.” Further, the Department hopes that “These equipment investments will develop and support workforce development initiatives at postsecondary institutions that focus on furthering the career aspirations of students and the economic growth of businesses in the region.”

Through RAPIDS, Miami’s main campus and regional campuses received a total of over $300,000. The funds have been used to purchase robotics kits that are being used in classes like ECE471 (Robotics-Vision & Control).

According to Dr. David Hartup, lecturing professor for ECE471, the department hopes the Robotics major will be approved within the next year.
