SLAM Sport Analytics Summer Academy

SLAM Summer Academy

Applications are open for the 1st annual SLAM Sport Analytics Summer Academy (SASA) for Summer 2021.

SASA is a four-week, on campus summer program designed to engage students, sport business leaders, and community members with an understanding of how sport organizations analyze, interpret, and communicate data efficiently and effectively in sport. Classes are taught by Miami University faculty from SLAM, Information Systems and Analytics, Statistics, English or Computer Science. Students will develop skills in applying database management, regression analysis, and data visualization to prepare students for a successful career in sport analytics.

Program Dates: During the four-week on campus summer program, students will meet 6 hours per day for course instruction from June 1-25, 2021. SASA is preceded by two weeks of asynchronous online coursework from May 18-28, 2021 designed to prepare students with the analysis skills required to successfully complete SASA. Therefore, students must be available from May 18-June 25, 2021. (June 1-25 will not be online)

Program Details: SASA students will use real data provided by sport organizations and apply statistical and analytical techniques to measure performance, improve decision-making, and solve real problems for these organizations. The three SASA courses will build toward a cumulative and integrative group project in which students will solve a problem for a real sport organization. SASA course instruction will be complemented with guest speakers, professional development, resume reviews, and site visits to sport organizations in an effort to better prepare students for a successful career in the area of sport analytics.

Course Details: Students enrolled in SASA will receive nine (9) credits toward either the Sport Analytics Undergraduate Certificate or Sport Analytics Minor. Students will enroll in: SLM/KNH 314 – Sport Analytics I; SLM/KNH 315 – Sport Analytics II; and SLM/KNH 317 - Sport Analytics III. To see how these courses fit into the sport analytics certificate and sport analytics minor, please visit our website:
