Miami Hamilton's Artist Series announces 2014 - 2015 season

Miami University Hamilton's Artist Series returns this year with a lineup of performances that includes bluegrass, American folk, African-American string, traditional Texas-style fiddlers and Tuvan throat singers. All shows are 7:30 p.m. at Parrish Auditorium.

Saturday, Sept. 13

In support of John Cowan’s new album titled “Sixty,” Cowan performs with Doobie Brothers bandmate and album producer John McFee. Cowan is universally known as The Voice of Newgrass. He applies his powerful pipes to genres from country, bluegrass and gospel to soul, jazz, and rock ‘n’ roll – often within the space of a single concert.

Tickets for this performance are $30 for adults, $28 for senior citizens/Miami employees and $20 for college students and children under 12.

The Quebe Sisters with Special Guest Tim Shelton

Saturday, Sept. 27

The Quebe Sisters are known for bringing three part harmony to Western swing, jazz, vintage country and traditional Texas-style fiddling. In 2007 they were the winners of the Crescendo Award by the Western Music Association and winners of the Western Swing Album of the Year from the Academy of Western Artists. Special guest Tim Shelton is known for his Americana and acoustic music. Shelton was the lead singer and guitarist of New Found Road from 2001-2013.

Tickets for this performance are $25 for adults, $23 for senior citizens/Miami employees and $16 for college students and children under 12.

The Carolina Chocolate Drops

Friday, Oct. 24

The Carolina Chocolate Drops are best known for their sound, rooted in traditional African-American string band music with a hip-hop and a soul element. Their current record, “Leaving Eden,” is the follow-up to 2010’s Grammy Award-winning “Genuine Negro Jig,” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Bluegrass Chart and No. 2 on the Billboard Heatseekers and Folk Charts. A new album is in the works for 2015.

Tickets for this performance are $25 for adults, $23 for senior citizens/Miami employees and $16 for college students and children under 12.

Thursday, Nov. 13

This acoustic duo is best known for their American folk music. Emmy nominated musicians' signature sound has been featured on radio, television and film, including Ken Burns' PBS documentary "The Civil War," "A Prairie Home Companion" and on the films "Legends of the Fall" and "Brother's Keeper."

Tickets are free but required. Seats may be different from season ticket location.

Saturday, Nov. 15

Hailing from the high pastures of the Altai Mountains in south central Siberia, the Tuvan acoustic quartet Huun Huur Tu make serious, strangely universal music out of some of the planets quirkiest acoustics.

Tickets for this performance are $25 for adults, $23 for senior citizens/Miami employees and $16 for college students and children under 12.

Balsam Range and Helen Highwater

Balsam Range is a bluegrass band that won the IBMA Album of the Year Award in 2013 for "Papertown" and Song of the Year in 2011 for "Trains I Missed." Helen Highwater is a new name with familiar faces in the group. Missy Raines, Mike Compton, David Grier and Shad Cobb make up the quartet.

Tickets for this performance are $25 for adults, $23 for senior citizens/Miami employees and $16 for college students and children under 12.
