Charmaine Slingerland, age 85, of Eaton, died Jan. 6 at her home. She retired from Miami University in 1990 after working 18 years at King Library.

Karen Clift, acquisitions librarian at King, was hired by Slingerland in 1980, working in the interlibrary loan area of the circulation department. “Charmaine was supportive of staff bettering themselves,” said Clift. “She allowed flexible scheduling to work around classes for those of us pursing academic degrees.”

A tree north of King Library was dedicated to Slingerland when she retired.

She is survived by her son Douglas, a building and grounds technician who services Warfield Hall.

Slingerland was preceded in death by her husband Claude and son Stuart.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at Darrtown Cemetery. Condolences may be placed online at www.oglepaulyoungfuneralhome.com.
