Young Painters Competition: Awards ceremony and reception Jan. 27

The winner of the 2017 Miami University Young Painters Competition for the William (Miami '36) and Dorothy Yeck Award will be announced in an awards ceremony at 5:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, in the Hiestand North Gallery.

A reception will be held 4:30-6 p.m. in the gallery lobby for the competition finalists and Annie Ewaskio, the winner of the 2016 competition.

This national competition for artists 25-35 celebrates the current trends in contemporary painting. This year's competition focuses on representational/realist painting.

The 2017 competition winner will receive the $10,000 William and Dorothy Yeck Award, and the painting will become part of Miami’s permanent collection. 

The works of the 10 competition finalists are on display through Friday, Feb. 10, at the Hiestand North Gallery.

Ewaskio's work is on display through Tuesday, Feb. 7, in the exhibition "Annie Ewaskio: Arktos” in Hiestand's Robert E. and Martha Hull Lee Gallery.

The 2017 Young Painters Competition was juried by Jed Perl, artist, writer and critic based in New York City.
