College Choice ranked Miami University’s software engineering program No. 7 in its list of the top 20 software engineering programs in the country.

It compared the academic reputation, student satisfaction, affordability and average annual salary of graduates from programs across the country, using figures from the schools’ websites as well as U.S. News & World Report, The National Center for Education Statistics and PayScale. Miami was the only Ohio school on the list.

Miami’s program was highlighted for classes taught solely by full-time professors; the option to specialize in areas such as bioinformatics, scientific systems, computer security and e-business systems; and the opportunity to apply learning outside of the classroom with Benton Information Technology Solutions, a student-run technology consulting business that works with clients both on and off campus.

The program is in the department of computer science and software engineering in the College of Engineering and Computing that prepares students for careers as software engineers, software developers, programmers, systems analysts, and database analysts. Computer software engineers remains one of the fastest growing occupations and is among some of the top career choices based on salaries and job satisfaction.
