About 5,000 incoming first-year students at Miami will be the first to receive a new book from best-selling author and alumnus Wil Haygood. This exclusive release is part of Convocation 2018 as Miami begins fall semester.

Haygood will speak to students about civil rights and lessons learned from a powerful story of triumph.

Tigerland: 1968-1969, A City Divided, a Nation Torn Apart, and a Magical Season of Healing is part of Miami’s Summer Reading Program.

In a special arrangement, Haygood’s publisher, Alfred A. Knopf, agreed to a special early delivery to Miami. The book will be available to the public on Sept. 18.

Convocation is Miami’s annual academic celebration welcoming its newest students — this year, the Class of 2022. The event is free and open to the public. More information is online at www.miamioh.edu/tigerland.
