Be Informed. Be engaged. Be ready.

hr-circleIn our journey to support and grow health and wellness in our university community, Benefits & Wellness throughout the coming year will be focusing on six initiatives:  Financial/Identity Security; Healthy Eating; Personal Health; Active Living; Healthy Environment; and Work/Life Support.  The 2015 Benefits/Wellness Fairs (September) and our annual open enrollment (October) will highlight Personal Health.

Miami University offers a variety of options designed to help support the changing and diverse needs of you and your family. Open enrollment is the one time each year when you can make a change to your benefit elections (except if experiencing a qualifying event such as birth or marriage).

It is important to review the available plans and any changes for 2016. Your circumstances may change each year, and it is important that your benefit selections support these changes. Consider the following:

  • Over the past year, how often and what type of care have you and/or your family received?
  • Review how your coverage through Miami complements coverage you may have outside of Miami.

During the months of September and October, Benefits & Wellness is presenting several sessions, each with a different focus topic.  Employees and their family members are encouraged to attend one or more of the sessions for detailed information on the available plans.

Presentations (60-75 minutes in length) will be in two parts. The first half will include general information regarding open enrollment and a high-level summary of any changes for 2016. The second half will be one of four focus topics outlined below.  A complete schedule is found on the open enrollment website at miamioh.edu/hr.oe.

Healthy Miami – Take Action Today will present details on the Healthy Miami Premium Discount Program.

Put Money Back in Your Pocket will provide details on the plans available for tax-free savings. These include the flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts and the supplemental retirement plans 403(b) and 457.

Your Benefits…More Than Just Health Care will present details on the dental plans, voluntary vision plan, life insurance, long-term disability, the employee assistance program and the health center.

Busting the Health Plan Myths is a comparison of the two health plans: the PPO plan and the High Deductible Health Plan with the Health Savings Account.
