Miami Matters brings you five fun, free things to do at Miami each month from events listed on the Miami events and Oxford community calendars. 

Dates to note: Final exams end (Oxford) Dec. 14; Fall commencement Dec. 14; University closed Dec. 24-Jan. 1.

lewis-placeSunday, Dec. 9: Winter Open House with the Crawfords at Lewis Place

1:30-4:30 p.m. Lewis Place, 310 E. High Street, Oxford

President Greg and Dr. Renate Crawford invite the Miami community to an open house at Lewis Place.

Stop by anytime between 1:30-4:30 p.m. Dress for the open house is casual, and spouses/partners and children are welcome to attend.

reindeer-gamesMonday, Dec. 10: The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati - “Reindeer Games”

7 p.m. Oxford Community Arts Center, 10 S. College Avenue

From the touring company of The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati, “Reindeer Games” takes on the holidays,  game-show style. Featuring Santa’s four-hoofed sleigh team as both hosts and contestants, this world premiere, written by Kenneth Jones, has plenty of audience participation, laughs, good cheer and celebration.

Part of the Family Performance Series sponsored by the Miami University Performing Arts Series.

 

Sunday, Dec. 16: Miami Skating Academy Holiday Showskate-academy

2:35 p.m.  Goggin Ice Center, Oxford

Miami Skating Academy participants showcase their skating skills at this annual Holiday event.

The performance includes solo and group skaters and holiday props to help put you in the holiday spirit.

The Miami University Skating Academy promotes participation in figure skating for all ages and abilities in a positive and safe environment.

martiniMonday, Dec. 17: The Martini Project: “A Martini Holiday Musical Feast”

7 p.m.  Miami University Hamilton Downtown

The Martini Project brings you the music of the jazz age, the popular music of the sixties and seventies and creative arrangements of current songs. Holiday favorites are added to the musical mix for a Martini Holiday Musical Feast.

This jazz instrumental and vocal trio includes Chuck Wiggins on piano and vocals, Scott Gold on bass and Randy Linville on drums.

snowman-workoutWeekdays through Dec. 20: Prepare for Healthier Holidays - Work out at the Fitness Center

Make your holidays healthier: Join the employee-only fitness center with access to cardio equipment, strength training machines, free weights, stability balls, stretching mats and more.

To join, stop by during the employee hours and a Benefits & Wellness staff member will help you get started. Email the Wellness staff to schedule an appointment for a free personal training or health coaching session. Spouses may join for free too.

Oxford: Fitness Center 113 Phillips Hall

  • 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. Monday-Friday
  • 6 a.m.-8 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday

Middletown and Hamilton Fitness Centers:

  • 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday
  • 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday
