Study Abroad Airfare Grant

Eligible Oxford undergraduate students with financial need may receive a university grant up to $600 for their study abroad airline ticket and could receive the remainder of their ticket price in an interest free university loan (up to $600). This one-time grant is available to a student for one study abroad semester while attending Miami.

Students may receive the Study Abroad Airfare Grant no sooner than 180 days prior to their departure date. The student must submit documentation that the ticket was purchased or the student will be required to pay the airfare grant and loan (if applicable) back to the University.

To qualify for this grant, an Oxford undergraduate student must demonstrate financial need, attend full-time during either the fall or spring semester in a study abroad program, and submit the following:

  • Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) - You must have a FAFSA on file to be considered for the airfare grant and to determine financial need.
  • Airfare Grant Application - Submit the application with an estimate of your airline ticket cost or copy of receipt.
  • Study Abroad Consortium/Contractual Agreement - You are required to complete this if you are participating in a co-sponsored or approved program. Exchange and Luxembourg programs do not require the completion of a Consortium/Contractual Agreement. The agreement requires your advisor's signature pre-approving coursework.

Airfare Grant FAQs

Why is the program only for Oxford undergraduate students studying abroad during fall and spring?

A goal of the university is to increase full-time study abroad enrollment during the fall and spring semesters. We feel the grant will help achieve this goal.

What does it mean to demonstrate financial need?

You demonstrate financial need if your Expected Family Contribution (EFC), computed through completion of the FAFSA, is less than your Cost of Attendance (COA). Cost of attendance for students studying abroad includes specific expenses related to the study abroad program.

What happens if I don't end up studying abroad?

You will be required to pay back the funds to the University.
