Current Students

The most successful students take ownership of their education, and the Department of Justice and Community Studies has a significant number of resources that can help you take control of your own education.
Majors
With academic programs in criminal justice, forensic investigation, nonprofit and community studies (previously civic and regional development), and forensic science our students are prepared to make a real difference in their communities.
Starting in the spring of 2021 we will not be accepting new students into the forensic investigation, nonprofit and community studies, or forensic science programs.
Advising
Every student should meet with your assigned faculty member to receive information on the various degree programs and the requirements of each major. Understanding degree requirements will help you graduate on time.
Scholarship
The Department of Justice and Community Studies offers students the opportunity to apply for a scholarship.
Professional Organizations
Successful students don't wait for an exciting career to come to them, they are constantly on the lookout for every opportunity. If you want to maximize your Miami degree right out of the gate, you should maintain an awareness of local and national agencies that are looking to hire new employees. Review Professional Organizations for links to local criminal justice agencies and some national employment websites.
