The event brings together members of the Miami and Oxford communities to celebrate diversity and the accomplishments of women across the globe.

The 23rd Celebrating Global Sisterhood event was held on the Oxford Campus on March 8, International Women's Day. Known until 2013 as the Women of Color Celebration, the event brings together members of the Miami and Oxford communities to celebrate diversity and the accomplishments of women across the globe. Coordinated by the Women*s Center since 2001, the event features student testimonials and performances, a keynote speaker, and awards presentation.

Undergraduates Alexandra Hopun (Beavercreek, Ohio), Courtney Rose (Versailles, Ohio), and Ni Suo (Sunny) (Shanghai, China) spoke of their experiences at Miami. The student testimonials were preceded and followed by performances by the Chinese Wind Ensemble and the African Students' Union. Alumna Camisha Chambers ('05) keynoted on the theme of exploring intersections of faith, identities, and social activism. Jennie Elder Suel Distinguished Woman of Color Awards were presented to Jaymee Lewis-Flenaugh and Esther Maria Claros Berlioz. Lewis-Flenaugh is a doctoral candidate in the student affairs in higher education program as well as a resident director. Claros Berlioz is a doctoral candidate in the educational leadership-leadership, culture and curriculum program.
