Senate News, April 5, 2021
Senators heard a final presentation on the proposed Miami Plan from Dr. Shelly Jarrett Bromberg, Director, Office of Liberal Education, and Dr. Leighton Peterson, Interim Associate Director, Office of Liberal Education. Dr. Dana Cox and Senator Jen Green presented a proposed change to how the TCPL caps are referenced and calculated. The proposed change would be to move to a percentage of TCPL of continuing faculty (TCPL and T/TT faculty). Senators accepted the Ad-Hoc Subcommittee reports (Staff and Faculty) for Covid Support.

Senate News, March 22, 2021
Senate welcomed and heard from Dr. Jason Lane, Incoming Dean, College of Education, Health & Society. Senate heard a proposed Sense of the Senate resolution from Dr. Zevi Miller, Chair, Faculty Rights and Responsibilities regarding revising Miami’s Statement on Professional Ethics and Responsibilities. Additionally, Dr. Dana Cox and Senator Troy Travis presented Covid Ad-Hoc Committee Reports and lead a discussion that will continue at the April 5, 2021, meeting.

Senators heard from Jaime Hunt, the newly appointed Vice President of UCM. An update from the Benefits Committee was given by the Chair, John Bowblis. Senators discussed two proposals from the Graduate School. Finally, Senator Tracy Haynes, Senate Liaison for the Council of Undergraduate Curriculum presented an overview of the curriculum approval process for new majors and degrees.

Senators continued discussion on the Consensual Amorous Relationships Policy. Dr. Shelly Jarrett Bromberg and Dr. Leighton Peterson presented the proposed Miami Plan requirements. ASG Senator Wes Payne presented a Sense of the Senate resolution to investigate the use of proctoring software. Dean Michael Crowder presented two proposals from the Graduate School: Graduate Student Research Fellowship and Sunsetting Dormant Graduate Degree Programs.

Senators approved several consent calendar items and heard a presentation from Senator Liz Wardle regarding the amorous relationships policy. Two new majors/degrees were approved: Hospitality Management (B.S. Commerce) and M.S. Kinesiology, Nutrition, and Health. A resolution to add a staff member to Senate Executive Committee was also approved. The resolutions are below.

Senators approved several consent calendar items and heard a presentation from Associate Provost, Carolyn Haynes on the Academic Incubator Program. Two new majors/degrees were approved, and the resolutions are below. Senators heard a proposal to add a staff member to Senate Executive Committee.

Senate News, November 23, 2020
Senators continued a discussion on changing the TCPL hiring process. A resolution (below) was then passed. Senate was presented with two new degrees: Master of Medical Science (Physician Associate) and Master of Athletic Training. Both degrees were approved (below) and will be forwarded to the Board of Trustees for the February 2021 meeting. Senate formalized posthumous degree guidelines into policy.

Senators heard form Dr. Keith Fennen, Chair, Faculty Welfare Committee, regarding proposed changes to the TCPL hiring policy. Dr. Jen Rode, Nursing, presented two degree proposals: Doctor of Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing. Senator Cathy Wagner presented a resolution regarding Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Associate Provost, Carolyn Haynes, returned to Senate for further discussion regarding changes to Senate ByLaws 8.A and MUPIM 11.1. Senator Liz Wardle introduced latest version of the Amorous Relationships Policy.

Senators heard a 'Budget 101' presentation from Dr. David Creamer, Sr. V.P. for Finance and Business Services. Dean Michael Crowder gave a Graduate School update. Senators approved changes to the composition of the University Promotion and Tenure Committee.
