Employment Requirements

New hires must meet specific requirements during the hiring process. Some requirements apply to all employees, others are based on a specific type of position.

I-9 Employment Verification

Federal regulations require Miami to verify the identity and employment eligibility of all employees through the I-9 form. You will need to bring the proper identification with you to assist in completing the I-9 at the appropriate University office. Please note: Failure to complete the I-9 and submit the proper identification will result in the termination of your employment with Miami.

Background Check

All applicants recommended for employment at Miami must pass a criminal background check before receiving a job offer.

Post-Offer, Pre-Employment Exam

Some positions (e.g., food service, building and grounds, and maintenance) require that applicants pass a physical examination before receiving approval for hire into that particular position. The exam is completed at the Ross Medical Center.

Orientation Paperwork

At your orientation session, you will complete various forms (e.g., W-4, payroll direct deposit) and receive important notices.

Online Training

The Office of Equity and Equal Opportunity (OEEO) requires the completion of two online harassment and discrimination training modules:

  • Preventing Discrimination and Harassment
  • Preventing Sexual Misconduct (Title IX)

Please note: All new hires will receive an email from OEEO with the links to these training modules. You must complete them within 30 days. Failure to complete the training will result in the termination of employment with Miami.

Voluntary Self-Identification Surveys

These voluntary self-identification of veteran status and self-identification of disability surveys can be completed in BannerWeb at any time.
